After the English-French conflicts in the 18th century and the subsequent French embargo, the English aristocracy remained cut off from its favorite Bordeaux wine. English brewers, at the time some of the best in the world, created a substitute in the form of an extremely strong beer, which, due to its high alcohol content, was called Barley Wine, available exclusively for the high society.Like other styles, it experienced comeback in the late twentieth century during the boom of microbreweries in the USA, fueled by the breeding of new hop varieties. Therefore our American Barleywine is well hopped, with a rich aroma of forest fruit and dark mead. It has a deep amber color, a dense, viscous body, and delicate woody aftertaste from 4 months of oak barrel aging. Complex malt tones and hop bitterness are well balanced, making this heavy-hitter surprisingly drinkable.
