In Germany, the term Oktoberfestbier can refer exclusively to the official beer sold at the Munich Oktoberfest. Originally it was a relatively dark beer (Dunkel), for the next hundred years it was Märzen – copper colored beer brewed until March and kept in caves over the summer, but for the last 30 years it has been a relatively strong malty lager with a deep golden color called Festbier. Our version of Oktoberfest has a golden amber color, aroma of fresh pretzels and a rich malt body balanced by a gentle bitterness, which was created by a combination of stronger malt and hops from the German region of Hallertau. In addition to 4 types of malt, we mashed in pretzels, which gave the beer a bready, toasty taste, and the dissolved salt from the pretzel crust left a fine minerality. This recipe has been developed together with our colleages from the Hellstork brewery and we all wish you a “Prost!” with Pretzelbier!
