Our new beer special belongs to a family of sour beer styles with wheat malt content. Due to its crisp character it was mentioned as “the Champagne of the North” by Napoleon’s divisions. It’s rare in its home country nowadays, but can be often found in many american craft breweries. This pale-straw coloured refreshing beverage has a light wheat body and low to unnoticeable bitterness. Hops are present only somewhere in the background. The dominant flavour is pure natural sourness, reminding of unripe fruit such as apples. A cup of Berliner Weisse is served in a traditional way along with a shot of raspberry syrup to balance the significant sourness. It has been described by some as the most refreshing beer in the world. Each brewer has its own way to create a beverage matching this beer style, some sweeten it with honey, various fruits or otherwise flavor it. We prepared ours with fresh ginger, what makes this refreshing beer a wonderful companion for the last Indian summer evenings.
