The production of this extra strong black ale started in the second half of the 18th century in London’s Thrale’s Brewery specifically for export to Russian royal court of Catherine II. Great. It is generally believed that London brewers must had modified the standard Stout recipe to withstand the thousand-mile jurney to Russia via the Baltic Sea. High density and very high alcohol content of Imperial Stout eliminated the possibility of freezing and degradation of beer. Our inspiration for the development of this beer originates in historical publications issued in 1851 in London. After deliberate testing we enriched the original recipe with an exotic mixture of dates and amaretto liqueur added directly into the fermenting tank. The result is midnight black color and a perfect harmony of flavors resembling dark chocolate, candied fruit, nut liqueur and almond truffles. That is our Russian Imperial Stout.
