Roots of this strawyellow beer reach as far back as 14th century’s Belgium and the Netherlands. Back then, the beer was brewed out of locally available ingredients, thus making it unique to each individual region. In the monasteries in a small town of Leuven, east of Brussels, barley, wheat and oats were used and instead of yet unknown hops a mixture of herbs and spices called gruit would act as a counterbalance of the malty body. Monks of a nearby town of Hoegaarden adopted this recipe, modified it and made Witbier world – famous. Our Witbier has an authentic, pale straw-yellow colour and a thick snow-white head. Thanks to the precipitated proteins and yeast, in some ambience it can appear to be white, hence its name. Our unique gruit consists of sweet and aromatic coriander, hand grated grapefruit peel instead of traditional orange one and pepper mix, which adds surprising twist on taste and aroma. Thanks to this gruit, Witbier Grep has sweet aroma of coriander, with tones of green pepper in the background. Beers body has creamy texture and bitter, slightly tart taste with grapefruit tones, which turns into long lasting, dry, peppery aftertaste.
